Alcohol Free Whiskey Sour recipe
A Whiskey Sour has got to be one of the best, classic cocktails made with whiskey and this alcohol free vegan version is no exception! Simply using aquafaba (chick pea brine) instead of egg whites along with, say, Lyre's American Malt (vegan friendly) makes this recipe suitable for vegans. Aquafaba can be used in any cocktail that calls for egg white. Just use 1 ½ tablespoons of aquafaba per egg white and it will turn out perfect every time 👌
Here's what you'll need to make an alcohol free Whiskey Sour:
- 45 mls of alcohol free whiskey or bourbon
- 30 mls freshly-squeezed lemon juice
- 1 ½ tablespoons simple syrup*
- 1 ½ tablespoons aquafaba (the liquid from a can of chickpeas)
- 2 dashes bitters (optional – note that it won’t be totally alcohol free if you use bitters, but will still be ‘non-alcoholic’)
Mixing instructions:
- Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes
- Add the aquafaba and shake for about 10 seconds, enough to aerate the aquafaba
- Add in the whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup, and bitters (if using)
- Shake for another 10 seconds or so, until your shaker feels nice and cold
- Strain into a chilled glass
* You can make simple syrup by dissolving 1 part sugar in 1 part water in a small saucepan over medium heat.
